Last night, along with one billion other tv viewers I sat down to watch the London Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Starting at 9 o clock the ceremony lasted well into the early hours of the morning.
Directed by Danny Boyle the event certainly had a lot of hype surrounding it. With rumors circulating for weeks about what the themes were and what was to be included in the evening. But mostly, could the Brits put on a better show than the Chinese did four years ago?
Below is my summary of the ceremony and my highlights of the evening:
The ceremony itself showcased the best of British charting the rise of England from agriculture through the Industrail Revolution and then to the present day.
Rowan Atkinson provided a great bit of humour.
The Queen even spoofed herself - and was shown jumping out of a plane to parachute into the Olympic Arena
Another person we were all waiting to see David Beckham - who speed boated in.
Britain's literary heritage was also acknowledges with appearances from Mary Poppins, JK Rowling and Voldemort.
I especially liked the inclusion of Sir Tim Berners-Lee the inventor of the world wide web. But maybe I'm biased as the internet is my bread and butter nowadays.
Music was heavily features as expected and there were performances from Dizee Rascal and The Arctic Monkeys.
I always love to see Wills, Kate and Harry having a bit of a giggle in the Royal Box.
