Where I've been: Tokyo

Another very long blogging break. Life's what happen's when you're making other plans right? So other than the usual daily grind they occasionally let me away from my desk for holidays etc.

Using my last bit of holiday from last year we decided to go to Tokyo as we saw a good deal online and thought why not?

I've always really wanted to visit Japan as it's a so different to the UK unlike places like the US, Australia and New Zealand where you know exactly what you're going to get.

We did all the usual tourist and heritage sites, ate some great food. We were only there for 4-5 days whereas it's probably more normal to spend a week or more travelling about. But at the end we felt like we'd done everything we wanted to do so didn't feel let down about leaving too soon.

Some of the things we got up to in the collage above are:

  • Tokyo Imperial Palace and Garden
The palace itself isn't really open anymore but the gardens are nice to walk around with ponds, and if you're lucky in the spring time a bit of cherry blossom
  •  Meji Shrine
We saw a couple of weddings as we went over the weekend which were very grand! I put 50 yen in the fountain which was supposed to bring me some luck in love but no results there. I only had a 50 not a 5 so that might have been the problem
  • Shinjuku's bright lights
A very busy shopping areas, we also went and had some purikura too which is very difficult if you don't know how!
  • Mount Fuji
The famous mountain. We visited on quite a misty day but it was still a good trip. We were also gifted with a prosperity bell lucky charm to take home
  • Senso-ji
Tokyo's oldest temple, our first stop when we arrived in into Tokyo.
